Mycelium and seaweed plastic.
11.3 million tons of clothes end up in U.S. landfills each year. Despite the waste each year, the average American household spends around $1400 on clothes. Fast fashion trends help create high demand for clothing at a low cost, leading to access waste in landfills each year.
SHEIN is notorious for its packaging. Each clothing item is wrapped individually in plastic, and due to low costs, consumers buy in bulk, which leads to massive boxes and lots of plastic bags.
I decided to redesign SHEIN and Nike boxes using mycellium and seaweed plastic. Both materials are bio-compostable, durable for shipping, and are easily designed and molded to fit company designs.

mycelium?
Mycelium is a naturally occurring fungal network found in soil. This phenomenon is insulating, fast-generating, and best of all: eco-friendly.
Designers, engineers, and architects alike look to mycelium as sustainable material for contemporary designs, from structures to packaging.
